The basin stones in Knowth contained cremated bones and ashes and were beautifully carved inside and out. Archaeologists also found a flint macehead between two jambstones in the eastern tomb that was likely a precious ceremonial object. Knowth contains over 300 decorated orthostats, the largest concentration of megalithic art in Europe, with some of the most dramatic designs on stones in the passageways leading to the chambers. Around 60% of all Western European Neolithic art is contained within the large monuments of Br炭 na B坦inne, featuring confidently carved combinations of spirals, lozenges, chevrons, and triangles on a large scale.
