The Soweto Festival Expo began in 1983 as a homemakers festival and has since grown into Gauteng's most significant multi-purpose event. It has been held in various locations around Soweto and Johannesburg and aims to contribute to long term economic and social development in Soweto and Gauteng. Over 1000 small businesses have participated as exhibitors since 2005, with many moving from informal to formal economy. The event also features cultural performances and aims to empower youth and small businesses.
