What is employability? Lots of things Having the skills for the job Presenting yourself well Being 'right' for the job Having a general base of 'employability'
Having the Skills Work out what you want to do Learn how to do it
Presenting yourself well Email address CV Cover Letter Interview Follow Up
Be Right Every company has a different way of doing things RESEARCH Then do more research And then a bit more Companies have to select on skills, but being right influences the assessment of those skills
General Employability Many pieces to this These are just my opinions YMMV, IANAL, LOL, FTW, TLA, ETLA, HTH
Communication Skills It's not all just talking Writing presentations Writing letters Writing pieces of prose Essays, papers, projects, etc Talking...
Work Experience Not necessarily relevant Although if you can get some then that is a Good Thing Evidence that you know how to work in a working environment Anything to show that you haven't been sitting around doing nothing Internships Relevant if possible, but otherwise something interesting
Professional Development Professional bodies Actually do something other than just join Attend talks Help out Find someone to mentor you BCS working on building a mentorship program IET run one Other professional bodies Acquaintances Internships
Jerry's Final Thought Work out what you want to do Make sure you know how to do it Make sure you know how to show other people that you know how to do it Make sure you know how to tell other people that you know how to do it Don't use Comic Sans on your CV
