Martin was a soldier traveling home during a cold storm when he came upon a poor freezing man asking for money. Martin only had some coins but gave the man half of his coat instead to help warm him. As he did this kind act, the clouds parted and the sun came out, earning this day in November named after Martin as "Summer of St. Martin." Martin was such a good man that he became a saint, with his feast day on November 11th still celebrated today by sharing chestnuts in his honor at the feast called Magusto.
