Whenever I meet new people, online or offline, it takes some time for me to "sniff" them and see if they are harmless or not. That might sometimes make me seem like an icy-cold person, but I really can't let my shields down before I know that person better. "Sniffing"-time varies a lot, depending much of how the other person reacts to it. Some people don't like it at all, and say goodbye right-away or they start to ignore me and some people accept my shyness, and that usually makes the ice break faster.
