The document describes a simple volcano experiment using baking soda, vinegar, washing up liquid and food coloring. The author filled a cup with water and baking soda, added washing up liquid and food coloring, then poured in vinegar outside which caused it to explode, simulating a volcano eruption. The science is that the vinegar and baking soda react to produce carbon dioxide bubbles that the washing up liquid traps, simulating flowing lava.
3. How it was made
I filled the plastic cup half full with water and added 3 teaspoons of baking
soda. After adding the baking soda I gave the mixture a good mix. Then I
gave a good squirt washing up liquid into the cup, and once again I gave a
good mix. Then I add a little bit of red food colouring. (This part was
optional but because I wanted colour I added this in. ) Now for the last
part I poured in the vinegarand watch the it explode. For this part I had to
go outside because once I pour in the vinegar it will explode.
4. This was when the vinegar was getting
poured into the liquid
8. The Science Bit
The vinegar and baking soda added together
makes bubbles. The washing up liquid that I
added is there to trap those bubbles so it
flows over the volcano like real lava!
