Damian Garside teaches Media and Communication on the Mafikeng Campus of North West University, in the North West province of South Africa. He holds a MA degree from the University of Manchester (United Kingdom) and a Ph D from the University of Cape Town. Since the 1980s he has had around 100 poems published in SA poetry and literary periodicals. He has been anthologized in Twenty Five Years of New Coin, Broken Strings: the Politics of Poetry in South Africa, The Paperback of South African English Poetry and SA in Poetry/SA in Poesie. Two videos on him and his poetry were commissioned by the NRF as part of a cultural history project and these are now housed in the National English Language
