I started out as a news reporter. I started contributing to monthly Herald in 1988 which bolstered my confidence defining the style of reporting that was to attract me later at The Friday Times. However, it was after joining daily The News International with Been Sarwar to launch a weekend magazine from Lahore that I became an investigative journalist specializing in environment. I honed these skills to a degree a that it was no longer possible for the newspaper to carry me filing from the News Bureau of Investigations in Rawalpindi.
