In 1980 when Mr. R.S. Mani and Mr. Marcel Fariene were on their way back from Bengaluru to Chennai, they were introspecting on deprivation and hardship faced by people suffering from leprosy who belonged to the weaker and vulnerable communities in India. Inorder to uplift and affirm the rights of the weaker sections, Mr. R. S. Mani and Mr. Marcel Fariene decided to initiate a programme. An organisation called ‘Emmaus Community Welfare Fund (ECOMWEL)’ was established with the support of Federation Emmaus in Switzerland.
The main objective of the organisation was to provide welfare, community development and empowerment to the vulnerable people in India. It upholds the principles and va
