Long Way Home is a grassroots non-profit organization located in San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala whose mission it is to curtail endemic poverty through creating educational opportunities and promoting healthy lifestyles. LWH has two operational projects: 1) Parque Chimiya, a recreational/educational park, with a soccer field, baskeball court, organic garden, volunteer housing, and recycling center. 2)Tecnico Maya School, which is a K - 12 school located in an indigenous Mayan area of the Western Highlands. The school will teach vocations and the basic education. The school is a lesson in itself as it is made from reused materials such as earth-packed tires and trash-filled bottles.
