Born in Kishoregonj, Bangladesh. Schooling in Chhaysuti High School. Higher Secondary from Notre Dame College, Dhaka in 1977. BSc (Honours) in Chemistry in 1980 and Master's in Applied Chemistry from Dhaka University in 1981. MBA from Ljubljana in 1995 and PhD from Jahangirnagar University in Environmental Sciences in 2010.
