Elvis Presley was born in 1935 in Mississippi and moved to Memphis as a child. His early musical influences included pop, country, and gospel music. He began his singing career in 1954 and quickly found international success. By 1956, Elvis had become a global sensation who helped usher in a new era of American music. Over his career, Elvis starred in many films and TV appearances, sold over 1 billion records, and received numerous music awards. He was known worldwide by his first name and regarded as an important figure in 20th century popular culture. Elvis died in 1977 at his home in Memphis.
