I have been involved for most of my professional career in what is now called ICT for development, i.e.: how to increase quality of life and bring human development through the proper usage of technology, this with special emphasis in developing countries.
In 1986 I joined the United Nations Development Programme. Since the very beginning I saw the potential of using ICT as a developmental tool.
The first relevant initiative I have been working on, was related to the spread of the Internet in Developing countries. The main challenge was: how we could provide access to the digital unpaved roads at the end of the '80, longtime before the Internet could be called "the information Highway"...
