100s of gallons of water were lost each
day to evaporation from manufacturing
circuit breakers at our electrical plant in
Las Piedras, Puerto Rico

““ I had the idea that we could get free water if we captured the rain that fell on the
plant’s roof and recycled the condensation from our air conditioning system.

A team was assembled to create the
water recycling system:
• Installed two water tanks, capable of holding 2,000
gallons each
• Relocated roof drain pipes and air conditioning
drains to redirect water flow into the tanks
• Installed pump to send reserve water to cooling
towers for manufacturing
• Installed screen filters to keep water clean
• Added a flow meter to monitor usage

In the first six months of operation,
500,000 gallons of water was saved
using the water recycling system, and the
plant’s total water usage was reduced by
10% in 2014, plus another 3% in 2015.

and helping Eaton conserve its local water resources.
