  • #2: VET stands for Vocational Education & Training. It is a term we might hear a lot of but never really think about. Lets think about it now.
  • #3: The word vocational means something to do with work and workplaces.
  • #4: So, in simple terms, VET is about people learning stuff that helps with work.
  • #5: This sort of training is needed for a couple of reasons. First, because if people want to get a job, then they are going to need to know some things. Second, because if a business or organisation wants to get a job done, then they are going to need people to be able to know some things.
  • #6: Things have changed over the years. People move more. People change jobs more. People take more breaks from work. Different and more types of jobs are available. People do more training. And People need to do more training.
  • #7: Because of this, more training organisations popped up and suddenly we found that different mobs were training people in different ways. This created some problems because people were not speaking the same language when it came to what training meant.
  • #8: A better way was needed. What was needed was a way that got every one on the same page. A way that made sense to every worker and every employer.
  • #9: What we have now is that way. What we have now is the Australian Qualifications Framework 2010, which is also known as the AQTF2010. What the AQTF has done is try to get every one to work in a similar way so that someone trained in office management in Gulargambone can receive the same training as someone trained in Port Adelaide or Meekatharra or Cairns. To get everyone on the same page, the AQTF sets out four goals.
  • #10: The first goal is that training should be outcomes focused. Since the whole point of the training is to get people to be able to know and do stuff, it doesnt really matter how they get to that point.
  • #11: The second goal is that training should be nationally consistent, so that no matter where you are in Australia, the training is essentially the same as anywhere else.
  • #12: The third goal is to make the training streamlined, so that the whole process of training does not get too bogged down in unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • #13: The final goal is to make the training transparent, so that we can all be sure that everyone is doing the same thing and doing it the right way.
