Indian journalist Palagummi Sainath has focused his career on covering rural and underdeveloped areas of India. He has won numerous awards, including the 2007 Magsaysay Award for journalism, for his work bringing attention to issues facing India's poorest citizens and initiating programs to aid rural development. Through extensive travel and reporting over the past few decades, Sainath has sought to provide coverage of the perspectives and challenges of those living in the bottom 5% of Indian society.
