At a time when the nation was content with merely the blueprint of the Nehruvian dream, Dr. Rao had the vision to realize the potential and the need for advanced, indigenous and environment friendly construction materials. He founded the Geosynthetic Engineering Laboratory at IITD. In 2006, he was the only Indian to feature in the 鈥�142 names Geo鈥� by IFAI of people who influence and continue to influence the geosynthetics arena.
