The Cannes Film Festival was founded in 1939 in Cannes, France and first took place in 1946. It is held annually in May to celebrate and promote new films and emerging filmmakers. The festival presents films from around the world and awards prizes like the Palme d'Or for best picture, as well as prizes for best actor, actress, director and screenplay. In 2013, the 66th Cannes Film Festival was held from May 15-26 under the presidency of Steven Spielberg, with "Blue Is the Warmest Color" winning the Palme d'Or for best picture.
