Dubai  (in  Arabic :  ???? ? ,  transliteration :  duba¨©y ) can either refer to an  emirate  (one of seven) in the  United   Arab   Emirates  (UAE) in the eastern  Arabian   Peninsula , or that emirate's main city, sometimes called "Dubai city" to distinguish it from the emirate.  LOCATION
EDUCATION The school system in Dubai does not differ from that of the  United   Arab   Emirates . As of 2006, there are 88 public schools run by the Ministry of Education that serve  Emiratis  and expatriate  Arabs  as well as 132 private schools. [59]  The medium of instruction in  public   schools  is Arabic with emphasis on  English  as a second language, while most of the  private   schools  use English as their medium of instruction.
DEMOGRAPHICS According to the  census  conducted by the Statistics Center of Dubai, the population of the emirate was 1,422,000 as of 2006, As of 1998, 17% of the population of the emirate was made up of  UAE  nationals . Approximately 85% of the  expatriate  population (and 71% of the emirate's total population) was  Asian , chiefly  Indian  (40%),  Pakistani  (15%),  Bangladeshi  (10%) and others (10%). [4]  About 3% of the total population of Dubai was categorized as " Western ".
