Ismail Suardi Wekke earned his doctoral degree from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia with the support of Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program. Under supervision of Prof. Maimun Aqsha Lubis, he wrote the thesis entitled “Multicultural Based Language Teaching in Pesantren of South Sulawesi, Indonesia”. His work on language teaching, gender, Bugis, and muslim minority has taken him to more than 45 universities for three years in Asia, Europe, and, America.
