I fight for gifted students' right to have academically rigorous opportunities in and outside of school, even when I'm labeled as misguided and elitest. I'm a compulsive planner, but I don't like Plan B most of the time. I would love to live in Europe again and to write textbooks that aren't sanitized for perceived cultural and demographic sensitvity. I cook because it relaxes me. It's been 14 years since I've repeated a dinner recipe, I read cookbooks for fun, and I have a sandwich named after me at a local deli. I read, write, and go to the movies to think, not to escape or be entertained, necessarily. I appreciate film discourse just as much as literary discourse and feel
