My interest is in practice-based approaches that help managers to pay attention to what it is that they are doing everyday. Research into how managers learn shows that at least 80% takes place through a mix of direct experience of doing the job and in conversation with colleagues.
On the MA in Management Learning and Leadership (MAMLL) at Lancaster University I spent time researching management learning by interviewing managers and observing them working. My findings pointed me towards the to the need for approaches that really help managers to observe their day-to-day practice, to be able to reflect on it and take action to improve performance.
