What does basketball, football, and baseball have in common in terms of rules or how each game is played? Not much, but what translates are individual player's attributes: height, speed, vertical, athleticism, strength, etc.
How about tennis, ping pong, and table tennis? I see a lot of similarities there, for instance there are defined boundaries, set point systems, a net, and you have to get the ball over the net. So why is it that you see more cross-over athletes in the first 3 sports than the second even though the second 3 clearly have more commonalities? Many possible reasons, but I believe the main one is that the first 3 are team sports whereas the second 3 are individual sports. ...
