Door het open karakter van het internet ontstaan er sociale platformen zoals Peerby, de technologische ontwikkelingen zoals GPS locatiebepaling en smartphones zorgen ervoor dat dergelijke platformen inzicht en betrouwbaarheid via de crowd kunnen leveren. Internet of Things platformen en technologie gaan dit nog slimmer maken.
De deeleconomie in vormen van o.a. open source software en creative commons zorgen dat dergelijke platformen snel innoveren of indien dat stokt middels een copy doorontwikkelen
Grote organisaties kunnen niet op tegen de macht van de crowd. De Dikke Van Dale is ingehaald door Wikipedia, banken door kickstarter, hotels door AirBNB.
