Kay qualified as a solicitor in 1997 having become a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in 1995. She completed the Legal Practice Course at the University of West London.
Having worked as a legal practitioner throughout her career, in various areas of legal practice and spent five years undertaking voluntary work for the citizens advice bureau. She stopped working as a solicitor in September 2014.
Kay is qualified to teach. She is a CILEx tutor for both level 3 and level 6 in both face-to-face, distance learning and blended learning programmes and teaches A level courses.
