INTRODUCTION
For this assignment we are tasked to find a specific land within campus area to initiate
a small construction project. The size of the land shall not be more than 30m x 30m.
Therefore, our selected site is the balcony located at Level 7, Block E.
Our purpose is to propose a new recreation area for the people of Taylors University
Lakeside. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, recreation means refreshment of
strength and spirits after work. The proposed area is supposed to serve as a refreshment and
leisure area for students and staff after study and work hours. This new haven will include
two main elements; the Passive Area and the Active Area.
The Passive Area is an area where the recreation activities are more docile and
relaxed. For example, this is where the open-air cinema is located. On the other hand, the
Active Area is where more dynamic and energetic activities are held. For example, we have
placed a mini golf course and etc.

Users can also hear the sound of the wind breeze and distant car noises. Moreover, the
selected site has a wide view of the significant lake, the Syopz Commercial Block, the staff
parking lot and distant roads leading to Bandar Sunway.
This site analysis shows the Sun orientation at the selected site. The solar panels
installed at the shade is able to come in contact with the Sun. Therefore, solar energy can be
efficiently harvested.

ZONING PLAN
The area is divided into two main areas; the Active Area and the Passive
Area. It is separated by the neutral area that connects to the entrance.

MAIN ELEMENTS (PASSIVE AREA)
We have decided to include the
passive area at the right side of the balcony.
This is because the sunset can be viewed
from that side of the balcony. The wind
direction is also facing that side of the
balcony. Therefore, users can experience
both the sunset and cool breeze while enjoying the scenery of the lake and the
distant landscape. While doing that, they can utilise the mats and carpets
provided in the vases and have a picnic at the area. Users can also watch movies
at that location. The maintenance staff will set up the projector and the screen
starting from 8pm. The passive area will be sheltered by a laminated glass roof
to avoid the area from getting wet by rain.
Not only that, minimal sunlight will pass
through the roof giving sufficient light and
heat to the users at the area. Half the roof
will be placed with solar panels to harvest solar energy. The solar energy
harvested will then be used to power the fans with light in the area. Users will
then able to have sufficient light and ventilation at night.

MAIN ELEMENTS (ACTIVE AREA)
For the active area located at the left side of
the balcony, we have included several dynamic
activities for the users to release their stress after
long hours of work/classes. For example, a mini
golf course is placed near the balcony so users can
experience the cooling breeze from that side of the
balcony and also the view of the sports centre and the
distant flyovers leading to Bandar Sunway. Near the wall,
we have placed the darts and Nerf Gun range for users to
release the stress. A notice will be placed encouraging the users to properly
keep the equipment and items safe. Foosball and
pool tables will also be placed at the area for users
to have fun.
