The document describes a 4th grade student's advocacy project to keep students reading over school vacations. The student created letters and posters advocating for donations to purchase new books. They contacted local businesses seeking gift card donations but only received two donations. Though the project failed to gain much support, the student learned they could advocate for important causes despite being shy.

2. My Advocacy statement:
I feel reading is so important;
th
so, lets keep all 4 grade
students at MLS reading over
vacations.
3. My Plan:
Contact school and get
permission.
Contact book stores and all local
businesses.
Create and print many advocacy
letters to distribute in town.
Make posters and fliers
advocating what I wanted.
4. Set a date and time and place for
raffle.
Use all proceeds towards new
books.
6. I feel it is so important to keep children
reading over vacations.
They keep their skills up.
They enter a whole new world
when they read.
It may even boost their
confidence.

Salon-Dunkin Donuts-McLeods-Hair

11. I patiently waited:
I received two calls on the first nite. I
was very excited-I was on my way to
making a difference.
12. Those were the only two calls I
received.
I was pretty bummed.
16. I even called the
bookstores again.
They never returned my call.
17. Even though my project failed I did
learn one thing about myself; that is,
I can advocate for a very worthy
cause and feel great about it. Im
painfully shy; but, I grew a lot from
doing this project.
