Born in a small mill town in the upper-Midwest to Norwegian, Alsatian and Prussian immigrants. My ethnically German grandmother warned me about the French and the Russians. I evidently took this warning as a dare.
Studied philosophy, language, literature and ended up earning a doctorate and teaching a spell before pioneering the settlement of the early Internet. Worked on an M.B.A degree until I learned about opportunity cost and fled to build a career in technology in Silicon Valley.
