So far the empty nest phase of life is pretty damn good -- and interesting. I love watching the kids sort out their lives as young adults, seeing how they live out what they learned in my home. They didn't have it easy and they still don't, but they seem to have their priorities straight. Nothing beats the pleasure of having your young adult child say you did things right.
So what's next? As a couple, we're working on being more thrifty and green. We try to find ways to build community. I'm hoping to achieve more of that elusive work-life balance so I can pursue personal writing and art projects. I want to be the kind of fascinating old person that young people want to be around.
