This document summarizes the growth of the Perl community in Italy from 2000 to 2008. It discusses how the founder started with just himself in 2000 and grew the community by: 1) Convincing members to travel long distances to connect, 2) Building an online community site and mailing lists, and 3) Organizing Perl workshops that grew from 40 attendees to over 120 attendees. It concludes by mentioning plans to propose hosting a future YAPC::EU conference and announcing the next Italian Perl Workshop.
