Our Vision & Mission ? Create a trail of murals ? Unveil history, celebrate our spirit and culture ? Reveal the ¡°who¡± and ¡°what¡± ? Use local architecture as the framework ? Variety of historical themes, public art designs and art mediums ? Walking and biking trail ? Keep the project community-based ? Communicates pride and provides ¡°ownership¡± opportunities
How It All Started The idea of creating a "trail of murals" began when Bob and Lynn Ockenwere visiting the small town of Seward, Alaska. They discovered various murals telling the story of the town, its people and culture. As they wandered from mural to mural, they became fascinated with the possibilities this concept could bring to the Cedar Rapids community.
Murals and More addsto the Downtown Cedar Rapids cultural landscape to¡­ ? Beautify existing infrastructure. ? Makeunique visions of art based on the Culture of Cedar rapids. ? Increaseentertainment opportunities and tourist traffic. ? MakeCedar Rapids a public art destination.
Murals and More builds a community around art in Cedar Rapids by¡­ ? Creatinga positive collaborative project for a network of local community groups and resources to participate in.
Murals and More unites institutions of commerce and education to¡­ ? Provide opportunities for community members to participate in the community development process in significant and positive ways. ? Highlight the talent of local artists from Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities Create opportunities for building portfolios and skill sets
