I love numbers and Excel. No, really. I think numbers tell a story, and over the last two years of analyzing content at a marketing agency I have enjoyed the challenge of telling stories about the content we produce from a quantitative standpoint.
If you think about it, numbers provide insight in what you are doing and what you are trying to accomplish. They inform strategy, direct campaigns, and fuel all of the buzzwords that everyone talks about. Numbers are also (relatively) unpredictable, creating an electric and exciting atmosphere...even through the lens of a spreadsheet.
