Introduction
Welcome to the congressional subcommittee on extreme force in overseas conflicts.
Congressmen as you may or may not know this subcommittee was formed in order to better
instruct the President in the event of a nuclear war. Your job is to research the use of the
Atomic bomb on Japan and determine whether or not it was the right thing to do for our country.
Each of you will decide for themselves after gathering the evidence and then as a subcommittee
will draw up a bill to be sent to the House floor based on our findings.

Task
Each congressman will be completing this assignment on their own. They will only convene
during the second half of the session (Fridays class period) when they will draw up resolutions
for the United States as it moves forward.

Process
Congressmen you will use prior knowledge as well as these links in order to form your opinion
on the matter of whether or not we should have dropped the bomb on Japan, and what if we did
that again today?
1. Research the health risks the atomic bomb had on Japan
2. What tactical reason did the U.S. have for dropping the bomb?
3. How did that day come to be? And what happened?

Evaluation
The students will all turn in a rough draft of the resolutions they would like to see be taken into
consideration. Students will also be graded on how well they work together in the congressional
subcommittee meeting and how good the debate is between the two sides. There is not one
side that is right and the other side is wrong.
Conclusion
Thank you for your efforts in keeping another Hiroshima from happening. Your tireless efforts
have not gone unnoticed and I am very proud of the work you have put in during this webquest.
