Flynn became a runner on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade with Sherson Lehman/ American Express in 1984. The following year he landed a job with Refco in N.Y., the world's largest futures and options clearing house on volume. He initially worked on their FX Futures and Options trading desk, under the astute trading guidance of 20 year options veteran Steve Kurtz. Within a few months Flynn was promoted to the trading desk Refco's Chief Financial Economist Albert Gross, who was frequently quoted in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times for his knowledge of the Federal Reserve.
