Profile set-up
Use your name as your twitter handle. Stick with the same handle across your web
presence for consistency.
Complete your biography with your title, employee and areas of focus. Use your Bio as an
insight into your persona on Twitter, potential followers will appreciate it. Link to your
LinkedIn profile or website and add your location. Use a professional, close up portrait.
@
Use @<user> at the start of a tweet to communicate directly with someone. If used at the
start, only followers of that person will see your message in their stream. If you would like
everyone to see the tweet, add them at the end.
RT
use traditional retweet annotation to share ideas with your followers. It's easier for the
originator of the tweet to spot. When you're RTed, thank the person. You would do it in real
life, so do it on Twitter. The in app or on site retweet button can often be missed by the
sender. Other permeations:
- CC If you think an article could be of use/interest to someone specific.
- MT If a link you are sharing mentions a user.
- by If they are the author.
- Via if the tweet came from them.
- HT Give a Hat Tip to a user if the link is from them, but they haven’t tweeted it.
DM
direct message someone if the information is sensitive, and for sending email addresses /
phone numbers.
# / Search
Tweet using hastags relevant to your topic. Set up canned searches for the key topics
mentioned in your bio. Remember to join hashtag words, #nick #allen is a totally different
search to #nickwallen.
