Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is a strategy to bring together different city development authorities and transport agencies to collaboratively plan high-density, mixed-use, and affordable development around transit stations in order to reduce urban sprawl and connect communities. TOD follows 12 golden principles to integrate land use and transportation planning through collaboration between stakeholders traditionally operating independently.
2. Why TOD?
? In Indian cities, Development Authorities and Municipal bodies co-exist but cater to
different spectrum of development needs.
? Yet, sadly they live in separate verticals.
? The Transport Authorities are other cogs in the city wheel, which tread on
separate journeys and twain don¨t meet.
? ^Transit Oriented Development ̄ is a development instrument to bring
all players on one drawing board.
? Rules of the game are simple i.e. have well connected, accessible,
high-density, anti-sprawl mixed land use development which is affordable & inclusive.
? Working relationship is to collaborate & integrate under ^12 Golden Principals ̄.
