In the 1980s, I helped American City Business Journals change the way newspaper business journalism was practiced, introducing the concepts of business expertise, sourcing outside the usual suspects, feet-on-the-street energy and snappy writing. Twenty-five years later, through Nozzl Real-Time Technologies Inc., I have another chance to help change journalism, bringing databases, aggregation and social media to bear on local reporting, with distribution accomplished through microblogging. Moreover, through my teaching, I have the opportunity to help inspire a new generation of 21st century communicators.
