Mr. Robert Pecchio
CourtVision International
To Whom It May Concern:
It is my pleasure to write a letter in support of the organization CourtVision International
and its GameChangers conflict resolution program. CourtVision International is a youth
development organization that uses sports for education and enrichment purposes. The
mission of the organization is to empower young people to transform conflict and
"change the game" in their communities while simultaneously encouraging the inclusion
of a youth perspective in the affairs of these communities.
Specifically, the CourtVision International's GameChangers program is a one-week,
intensive program that integrates a conflict resolution process curriculum with an
innovative use of basketball gameplay and classroom discussion to promote inclusion,
fair play, and the development of soft skills. Students engage in multiple experiential-
learning modules in which they have the agency to change and alter the rules of
gameplay to facilitate conflict resolution skill-building objectives in a directed and non-
competitive framework.
The CourtVision International team conducted their GameChangers program at the
Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center, (where I am both the CBT Administrator and
Chaplain), from August 1-4, 2016. The students at our facility thoroughly benefited from
this program, reporting very positive results such as a reduction in negative behavior,
increased confidence in communication skills, and increased ability to find the common
ground with the other party in conflict scenarios.
I fully support the efforts of CourtVision International as they seek to reach more youth
in detention facilities and as they seek external funding for their programming. I believe
the CourtVision International organization and its conflict resolution programming would
be beneficial to any student seeking to lead a productive, empowered life.
Thank you,
Father Barkett
