After completing M.D. (General Medicine), the need was realised to develop specialised Intensive Care Units other than Cardiac Care Units as specialised multi disciplinary ICUs were hardly present in India. Underwent training in U.K. at Birmingham and Sheffield in the area of Critical Care Medicine on a scholarship by Royal College of Physicians, Edinburg for overseas students.
After returning from U.K.,started multi disciplinary ICU at Ruby Hall Clinic (first of its kind at Pune). This ICU which started as a 4 bed unit is now 28 bedded unit treating about 1200 critically ill patients per year.
