Medical ComplicationsOn January 30th, 2011 two prominent NY DJs, Tony Touch and DJ Premier, announced via Twitter that Herc required surgery and support to help with his medical costs.
TrendingThe news about KoolHercquickly became a trend on Twitter and was picked up by major media outlets (both digital and traditional).
Radian6Using Radian6 – a social media monitoring tool, I was able to catalog all mentions of KoolHercacross mainstream news, over 2 million blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and other social web sites. I put together this slide deck to illustrate how Radian 6 can be used to lern more about a trend and identify keywords and influencers in the digital dialog.
Trend AnalysisThis graph shows all mentions of KoolHerc across all digital outlets, over time. Also shown here is the trend for donations. This provides insight to the arc of the digital dialog, its pick-up and duration.
Conversation CloudUsing the Conversation Cloud, we can see the words that people are using in their posts. This can help inform additional analysis and future research.
Expanding the VisualizationI exported the all posts and mentions of KoolHercusing the River of News and created a visualization using Wordle.net to show what words were most frequently used. 8
Trend Analysis - KeywordsIn the digital dialog re: KoolHerc note that mentions of Hip Hop or Donations trend higher than mentions of health insurance, philanthropy, or the email address set up for donations. How could this information be used to shape the dialog?
Influencer IdentificationUsing Radian6’s River of News we are able to see which Twitter users mentioned KoolHerc. We can then sort by Twitter Following to see who in the digital dialog has the largest following:P.
