The document discusses bringing Safe Routes to School programs to low-income communities in Michigan through partnerships. It outlines the types of partners involved, including parents, teachers, universities, and government agencies. The partnerships face challenges with issues like trust, funding, and sustainability. However, the partnerships also provide wins like increasing safety, building relationships, and serving local communities. Lessons learned include describing programs simply, understanding community history, addressing financial challenges, and providing ongoing support for implementation.

9. Relationships
As a transportation agency, the dialogue has
increased around pedestrian safety and
motorists, and there's an increase in trust. I
see a win being the relationships with
community members. People are asking
questions not necessarily about SR2S but
also about safety. SR2S builds familiarity
with the work we do and people involved in
SR2S feel comfortable coming out and
discussing other projects.
