I have a tendency to make up my own expressions by tweaking old cliches, for example;
Beating a dead horse > It's like beating someone with a dead horse
Kill two birds with one stone + Ducks in a row > Don't kill all your ducks in a row
There's no such thing as a free lunch > You can always find a way to get a free lunch
The early bird gets the worm > The early worm hides from the early bird
Barking dogs seldom bite + there's no smoke without fire > Barking dogs don't catch fire
