Ricardo Gomes received a BFA in Industrial Design from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA (1980); an MFA in Industrial Design: Design for Low-Income Economies (1984) and an MA in Architecture: Alternative Building Technology & Materials (1993) from the University of California, Los Angeles.
He was a Fulbright Scholar in Nairobi, Kenya(1984-1985) and Program Coordinator of Design Projects in Developing Countries at Les Ateliers, Ecole Nationale Superiore de Creation Industrielle (Ensci) in Paris, France (1986)
He is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Design and Industry (DAI) at the San Francisco State University (SFSU) where he has been a faculty member since 1991.
