This talk introduces a Generalised Theory of Evolution as a way of challenging convictions, assumptions and common perceptions and will use contemporary issues to explain the desperate need for its application to the scientific enterprise. Biological sciences are the source of evolutionary thinking and under the Neo-Darwinian consensus, the thinking is that: All species are interconnected with common architecture and common origin Evolution takes place at the gene level, via mutations with a machinery for heredity Natural selection, working on the effects of mutations, is inevitably a blind architect. Already science without a GTE is an agent of change by challenging uncorroborated exiting knowledge of the day (often accumulated by unfounded perception-like reason). Science without a GTE is currently the norm but does something peculiar - it produces mutually exclusive end-products (or concepts) often without being challenged. Science with a Generalised Theory of Evolution (GTE) is not yet topical but is feasible, and escalating risks are making the case to seek this architect for inclusion.]]>

Risk analysis practices are pragmatic and they are used widely but they comprise different methods and are just a method of assessing risk without giving a complete picture of the problem. At least, it is increasing relaised that it is not irrelevant ti talk of of acts of God but risks are created by mans activities and helped by natural variability and inherent uncertainty. The philosophy of risk is infested by contentions/conflicts and different philosophies on risk are excluding one another instead of building on one another. Evolutionary ideas can explain risk throughout human history. ]]>

Traditional narratives of moral philosophy seem to be silent on modern issues such as "our duties to the environment." It seems to many that the right way to go about environmental problems is for the government to legislate and enforce; for the institutions to comply with legislation when they carry out their tasks, and for individuals to hope that everything will be fine. But will it, in the risk society that we live in, where we can demonstrate that adverse effects (outside the range of natural events) are our making and not acts of God? My presentation will look at the pervasive sustainable development industry ( as big as 7% of GDP in England). I will show that in a risk society, individuals need to have a culture of critical thinking and then act as moral agents. In this way, they will be the lubricant in a governance system comprising the government, institutions and individuals. Although I will be reviewing traditional moral theories (but deeming them to be hopeless) I will rely on an evolutionary framework, whereby morality is seen as essential to good governance. The presentation gives a special focus on inclusionsm.]]>
