Deep Vein Thrombosis is very serious condition, should be manage accordingly. Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT) is a medical condition where a blood clot forms in a deep vein, usually in the legs. It can cause pain and swelling, but sometimes it occurs without any noticeable symptoms. DVT is a serious condition because the blood clots in veins can break loose, travel through the bloodstream, and lodge in the lungs, causing a potentially life-threatening condition known as a pulmonary embolism (PE). Causes and Risk Factors: Prolonged immobility (e.g., long flights or bed rest) Surgery or injury, especially involving the legs or hips Inherited blood-clotting disorders Hormone therapy or use of birth control pills Pregnancy and the postpartum period Cancer and certain cancer treatments Obesity Smoking Older age Symptoms: Swelling in one leg (sometimes both) Pain or tenderness that often starts in the calf Red or discolored skin Warmth in the affected area Diagnosis: DVT is typically diagnosed through: Ultrasound D-dimer blood test Venography (less common) MRI or CT scan in specific cases Treatment: Anticoagulant medications (blood thinners) to prevent clot growth Compression stockings to reduce swelling and prevent complications Thrombolytics in severe cases to dissolve clots Surgical procedures (rare) such as inserting a filter in the vena cava to catch clots Prevention: Stay active and move frequently, especially during long travel.
