At Wyplay, the Jenkins master server had grown to include 34 attached slaves, 78 plugins and 527 jobs. That would not have been a problem if there were no major issues - but that was not the case. The team had issues related to performance, reliability, ability to upgrade and security. Because of these issues, project teams started to build their own master servers and on several of them, the issues (particularly security) were even greater than on the original Jenkins master server. The Wyplay team decided to migrate to a system where they could easily generate and manage new masters for each project. In his talk, I explain how Wyplay used Docker and the official Jenkins image from CloudBees to support the migration to the new multi-masters architecture. I also briefly present how it could evolve using orchestration tools, and a better separation between ansible scripts and Dockerfiles specifications.]]>

This is the notes of a presentation I gave to our IT dept., people who know a lot about VMs! They include a description of differences betwen a VM and a container, why would someone would want to use Docker, how it works (at 30,000 feet), some hints of what are the hub and orchestration, some Dockerfiles examples: jenkins slave, jenkins master, sinopia server, etc. and finally some new features Docker is going to propose in the future and how I intend to mix Configuration tools, such as Ansible, and Docker.]]>

https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/profile-photo-cm13-48x48.jpg?cb=1599741362 I worked a long period in research and innovation. Now I enjoy supporting development teams at times of transitions, especially promoting Agile practices inspired by Scrum, XP or Kanban. Also, I have always been interested in sharing knowledge and experience, through training, setting-up of knowledge sharing tools, and support to teams. From 2007 to 2009, I have enjoyed being an enabler in a research team following Agile software methodologies through the implementation and support of knowledge management tools, automated builds and tests, configuration management and other tools. I then started training two other small teams of developers who were not aware of agile methods and they wer... http://www.wyplay.com/index.php?page=2a https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/scalingyourjenkinsmasterwithdocker-150624150844-lva1-app6892-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/scaling-your-jenkins-master-with-docker/49789872 Scaling your jenkins m... https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/bherofvgqeyvvlnerlkw-signature-4fee2263c9adb4fcce780dba324d2b10ca7d0c44db0fff6aefbcc8528ca5da24-poli-150530113652-lva1-app6892-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/introduction-to-docker-48784005/48784005 Introduction to docker
