In my time a 'Career' was no more than 'Carrier' of social expectations of you. My only ambition in life at that time was to at least make it to near an aeroplane before I died. I got into Agriculture because I did not get admission in Medicine. I did my Masters because I did not know what else to do after Bachelors. I was the Gold Medalist at both levels and if I did not know what I was doing, I can imagine the plight of others. I have seen people doing PhD because they do not know what else to do after their Masters. Many go for Post-Docs for the same reason.
