3D Printing is now changing the way we manufacture many objects in amazing ways, from tools, toys, and jewelry, to food, and even body parts! It's a technology revolution happening in new kinds of factories, and even in homes, around the world. But how does it work exactly, and why has the economist, Jeremy Rifkin, called it an important key to the Third Industrial Revolution? This talk explains the basics of 3D printing technology, and what you need to know to begin designing and printing your own creations, with or without your own 3D printer.]]>

Societal Success vs Belief in Supernatural /slideshow/chart-societal-successvsbeliefinsuprnatural/9994276 chartsocietalsuccessvsbeliefinsuprnatural-111102111346-phpapp02
Is belief in the supernatural necessary for success as a society? When we compare ourselves with other prosperous democracies using 25 measures of success, every 10-unit increase in belief in the supernatural is associated with a 7-unit decrease in societal success. The U.S. is both the most religious and the most dysfunctional of these societies. The correlation between societal success & lack of belief in the supernatural does NOT mean lack of belief leads to success. It does show that societal success does NOT DEPEND on belief in the supernatural. See journal article by paleontologist, Gregory Paul: http://www.epjournal.net/filestore/EP07398441_c.pdf ]]>

Some folks say, Of course, religions good for society it fosters a strong sense of community, feeds the hungry, houses the homeless and promotes the moral education of our children. Others say, Are you kidding? Religion deceives people about the true nature of reality, inspires sectarian violence, teaches dangerous and misleading sex education, and causes endless cultural disputes over abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research - of course, it's bad for society. Drawing on recent social science research by Gregory Paul, and the Plan B Initiative by Lester Brown, this talk suggests a fresh approach to answering this question.]]>

People are spending lots of time socializing on-line. Social media applications like Facebook, Twitter and Blogs can be used to achieve measurable results in marketing, customer service and feedback on your business. When you really understand these relationship-building tools, you can put them to work faster and more effectively. Businesses that know how people use social networks, and what they expect from them, can reap many benefits. On the other hand, if a company doesnt understand the nuances of on-line networking, it may find itself ostracized and abandoned by users. This fast-paced session will show you how to use Facebook, Twitter & Blogs for your business, and perhaps give you a whole new outlook on social media technology.]]>
