It is a story of reorganizing line management and leadership in my teams. The motto of this change was We are all engineers. It describes a transformation that happened inside me, a shift from a narrow perspective (the Head of QA) to a wide scope of engineering (business, delivery, architecture, solution), and caused a move to the Engineering Manager role. What you will hear about: - How to kill silos? - How to assess your line manager? - How to empower line managers and - How to encourage employees to take responsibility for their development?]]>

Automation in the world of project /slideshow/automation-in-the-world-of-project/207887040 mockunautomationsqav2-191219195404
The world of a software house is a constant search for compromise between quality and costs. In many cases, the cost-cutting starts from the test automation. Then you start to talk about ROI but recognize that numbers are not on your side. We were there and what we have found out is that only a complete change in our approach allows us to find common ground with our clients. I will reveal one detail from the presentation - we are not talking about test automation with clients anymore - as a result we do it more and more. Are you surprised that success automatically generates new challenges which we further translate into opportunities? We had to reconsider our approach to the test automation environment, internal frameworks and the way we share them between projects, including code ownership, And again, one simple but unobvious solution allows us to both deliver what we promise and to earn more on our projects. As we have been reshaping our approach to the test automation, we had to change the way of delivery too. One of the main decisions was skip out the role of test automation engineer (or software developer in test). We decided to go with the whole team approach which is consistent with the way we sell it. Find it interesting? Join me and listen to our story about how we have transformed test automation.]]>

A few years back we got a question if we would like to try to hire a person with Asperger syndrome as an intern. After a few short talks, we decided to take the challenge. Guess what? Now, a few years later, he still works with us as a QA Engineer, gaining experience in several projects. Based on my own experience, I am going to share how to run the recruitment. Yet, it doesnt seem to be the hardest part as its easy to hire someone. The challenge is how to keep such person long term with mutual benefits. You will hear the story about our daily challenges and actions. But there is something else -using the knowledge we have gained- we took one more step forward with accessibility of our web applications. After multiple attempts, the support for the disabled people has become a significant part of our projects. You will find it out during my presentation.]]>

Shift left as first transformation step into Quality Assurance /slideshow/shift-left-as-first-transformation-step-into-quality-assurance/80739005 shiftleft-171012132944
Do you work in a company which has established effective testing process, which ensure high quality and support Agile methodologies? Can your testing process be used as a model for other companies? Fortunately, we were in that place a few years ago and had to ask ourselves a question about the next step. The answer was: Lets be Quality Assurance Engineers rather than Testers. But what should we do? How can we do this transformation? At the same time, I got feedback from my colleague Head of Java practice: Your testers found defects in areas / scenarios which werent included in development scope / my devs didnt know that should cover those edge cases. What can we do with that? I had to agree with him. There is no sense to test scenarios which werent implemented. This was the starting point of our transformation. We decided to implement Shift left model as it looks like the most promising one. But when we implemented it not everything worked as smooth as we wished. New challenges appeared, but more in my presentation.]]>

We decided to implement Shift left model as it looks like the most promising one. But when we implemented it not everything worked as smooth as we wished. New challenges appeared, but more in my presentation.

Presentation for Quality Excites 2017. A companys grow, as well as new and bigger clients who brought more difficult projects has begun transformation from start up into medium size and mature organization. How did the Cognifide survive that change? One of the answers was quality metrics and QA Reports. The story has begun few years ago when the first project team had to choose quality metrics and create the first periodic report. Zbyszek will show an example report with the most important metrics. But again, Cognifide was still growing, new and bigger projects brought unplanned adventures. How did the project teams deal with them? Zbyszek can tell that they did not win all the battles. So where are they now? Does the solution that passed the exam during transformation is still valuable for a mature organization? ]]>

https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/profile-photo-zmockun-48x48.jpg?cb=1659866876 He started his career years ago working for Motorola corporation, then moving to medium size company CapeTechnologies to finally land at a startup called Cognifide, where he has worked for over 11 years. In this International company, he has taken a reverse journey from startup to corporation (like Tolkiens There and back again). He understands the importance of values and ranks them higher than processes which often contradict those values especially as the company grows. He can also see the big picture and understands that grow gives new opportunities. Co-Founder of the oldest Polish testing meetup PTAQ, and a series of podcasts (TestingParrot), and frequent speaker. https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/freestyleyourleadership-220807130122-319f92e1-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/freestyle-your-leadership/252455864 Freestyle your leadership https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/howtodevelopdiverseteam-200305075447-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/how-to-develop-diverse-team-v20/229725231 How to develop diverse... https://cdn.slidesharecdn.com/ss_thumbnails/howtodevelopdiverseteam-200301142102-thumbnail.jpg?width=320&height=320&fit=bounds slideshow/how-to-develop-diverse-team/229478278 How to develop diverse...
