House types in Pakistan vary widely by region. Traditional homes in Gilgit-Baltistan are made of stone and mud with thick walls for insulation and no windows, only skylights. Rural homes in Balochistan are made of carved mud resembling local embroidery. The wood carved houses of Swat valley are beautiful structures appreciated for their architecture when viewed with the Darya-e-Swat river. Rural Punjab and Sindh feature simple blocked mud houses while Kalash valley homes incorporate wood, glass, and stone in their structures. Kashmir houses have wood borders and thatched roofs.
